Lunch and Dinner 7 days
So now we move from the sublime to the ridiculous.
After our light, fresh & incredibly delicious lunch at JOHNANDPETER Canteen, we decide to do a complete 180 and visit The Abercrombie.

Recently refurbed, The Abercrombie sits on the corner of Broadway and Abercrombie Street.

When we arrive at around 12.30pm, the pub is still pretty much empty & we grab ourselves a cute little booth.

As mentioned previously we do have a soft spot for American diner type food, and while the Abercrombie is not strictly 'diner', it certainly is of that ilk. The Abercrombie menu has Buggles and Squeak written all over it.

Maybe it is because it's a Saturday & there is footy on the telly, but as the pub starts to fill we notice that we are are the only females present. Surely it can't be the food? Doesn't this kind of deep fried deliciousness cross gender lines?

Mac n Cheese is a favourite food of ours (yes, even the dodgy Kraft variety), so when you take Mac n Cheese, roll it a ball, crumb & deep fry it, haven't you created something that is pure genius? Yes, indeed you have.

The crunchy balls of Macaroni with oozy cheese are comfort, stripped back to its purest form. They nourish the soul (if not the body).

The Hot Artichoke & Parmesan dip is also spectacular. The artichoke flavour is quite prominent & the salty parmesan works very well with it. It is demolished in seconds.

The Philly Cheesesteak with sliced beef, peppers, mayo and lashings of cheese is sumptuous. The steak is cooked very well & is tender & juicy, however it is served in 'chunks' rather than thin slices, which would be preferable.
This already impressive sandwich is served with a side of fries with gravy & mayo. Such generosity.

As our arteries scream for reprieve, our souls cry out for more.

What better way to finish this meal than a Deep fried Golden Gaytime.
Unbelievably, it is not remotely greasy, the batter is quite light & really quite scrumptious. I try to convince Buggles to order another.....she won't have it.

So while we may have knocked 10 years off our lives, we have to say this meal really was 'chicken soup' for our souls.

Lol, Squeak. I think Buggles was trying to save your arteries from collapsing. Good to know it's not that the deep fried gay time is not that heavy, makes me more tempted to try this out.
