Sun 2pm-10pm
We are wandering down Enmore Rd (prior to Jennifer Coolidge), looking for a bite to eat & perhaps a drink or two.
Thanks to a prior visit we now know that Pickwick's is out.
As we pass the myriad of Thai, Indian & Turkish restaurants we spot a sign that reads 'The Green Room Lounge'.
Intrigued we peer in, looking beyond the Twin Peaks-esque red curtains to spy a very funky, 1950's styled lounge/bar.

Review : Pickwick's.... for dinner - CLOSED
129 Enmore Rd
Enmore

pickwicksbistro@gmail.com
Tue 8am-4pm
Wed-Sat 8am-11pm
Sun 8am-5pm
Our plan for the weekend was simple. Catch a movie on Saturday, potter about the house a bit in between, then lunch at the Four in Hand on Sunday. A spanner was thrown into the works when I spotted this comment on Pickwick's facebook page "All-day red wine braised beef cheeks / heirloom carrots / caramelized eschallots / garlic confit mashed potatoes". I am obsessed with beef cheeks, and as we had been meaning to revisit Pickwick's for dinner (after really enjoying their brunch), I convinced Buggles to forgo lunch at the Four in Hand in favour of dinner at Pickwick's.
When we arrive the restaurant is all but empty & we are sat in a dark corner under the stairs. We have forgotten that the restaurant is BYO, so I dash up the road & pick up, what turns out to be, a not so great Cooks Lot Pinot Gris (I really have to stop picking wine just because I like the look of the label).

Review : Pickwick's - CLOSED
129 Enmore Rd
Enmore
Tuesday 8am – 4pm
Wednesday-Saturday 8am-11pm
Sunday 8am-5pm
Despite living relatively close by, we don’t tend to spend a great deal of time in Enmore; we usually drive through it on our way to somewhere else or stop briefly when catching a show at the Enmore Theatre.
A recent visit to Pickwick’s may be about to change all that.
Pickwick’s resides in the premises that once housed Razors Edge (the Razors boys having moved up the road to the Queen Victoria Hotel). The room feels somewhat familiar, but things have been scaled back, most notably the denuded walls which give the space a warm, earthy feel.

Review : Razors Bistro
Razors Bistro
Queen Victoria Hotel
167 Enmore Road,
Enmore
Bistro:
Monday-Friday Lunch: 12noon -3pm
Monday-Friday Diner: 5pm until late
Saturday: 12 noon until late evening
Sunday: 12 noon until 9pm
à la carte dining on Level one:
6pm until 10pm Friday & Saturday
Razors Edge was a restaurant that we had visited quite a few times over the years.
We had gone there for the Sunday roast, the schnitzel & the risotto...one memorable night we accidentally stumbled in on a performance by the 'Cunning Linguists'...a feminist poetry slam of sorts!
So while the food was not what you would term spectacular, it was always consistently good. The roasts were a standout as was the creme brulee.
Whilst driving down Enmore Road recently I spotted a sign for 'Razors Bistro' outside the newly re-furbed Queen Victoria Hotel, the name & location led me to one conclusion..."this must be where the boys from Razors Edge have moved to".
After then checking their website & confirming that this was indeed the case, we headed there for dinner to celebrate C1's birthday.
