Review : Platform 7 (The Rebirth) - CLOSED

4 Burrows Avenue
Sydenham

Mon - Fri: 06:00 - 17:00

Sat: 07:00 - 15:00

Well it has certainly been a long time between breakfasts. After a couple of disastrous visits we swore we would not return to Platform 7.
Time however, has mellowed us & we decide to pop along to see if things have improved.

We secure a table & the first thing we notice is that the Sacred Grounds Fair Trade coffee has been replaced by the wonderful Rosebery's Allpress, which we certainly much prefer.

The menu also, has been pared back, with only the P7 breakfast (bacon, eggs mushrooms, tomato & toast), scrambled eggs with feta & spinach & a bacon & egg roll available. We think this works well for the small cafe as they can concentrate on doing these things well.....which they do.

At $13.00 the P7 breakfast includes a cup of Allpress and is pretty impressive. The bacon is crispy & abundant, the eggs well cooked & the 'veg' components spot on.

It is a shame that some of my favourite sides (the haloumi & potatoes) are no longer available.

Have to say the freshly squeezed orange juice is the best we have tried in a while.

For lunch Platform 7 offers a range of sandwiches & rolls, as well as a rotating menu that may include lamb one day or moussaka another.

For those with a sweet tooth, there is also a huge selection of cakes, muffins, macarons etc.

So after what owner, Angela describes as a horror year, it would appear that Platform 7 has risen like a phoenix from the ashes, and finally hit its stride.

it's quite funny to see this is your fourth visit and everyone one of your visits on urbanspoon you've noted as 'Doesn't Like It'. I'm wondering how many more times you'll visit before you actually decide not to return ;-)

The last visit wasn't too bad actually.
I guess we kept visiting because we lived in the area and always held out hope that it would improve.
We have left the area now & while it had improved on our last visit, it is not a cafe we would go out of our way to visit.
So I guess we won't be returning.
