Buggles & Squeak had been wanting to visit Enoteca Sileno for lunch ever since we won a glorious wine dinner co-hosted by the Enoteca crew & harbourkitchen&bar.
Finally our time had come...
Enoteca Sileno sits in a rather god forsaken part of Lygon Street, there isn't much else around. This could perhaps be seen as a good or a bad thing.
As we were dining at Embrasse later that evening we didn't want to fill up too much at lunch.
On perusing the menu we decided to start with some Carciofi alla Romana
(Artichoke, bread crumbs, sage, parsley). These were nicely seasoned & quite delicious and we polished them off rather quickly.
We followed with Olive saltate (warmed olives marinated in rosemary, chilli, garlic), a lovely selection of green & black olives, deliciously warm & spicy.
Then the Salumi con grissini della casa (mixed Italian salumi, house-made parmigiano grissini) and a cheese plate consisting of Gorgonzola Dolce,Talleggio Bonta della Bonta & aged Pecorino Toscana.
While it was all very fresh & tasty, we feel we have been spoiled by our visit to Formaggi Ocello, Enoteca Sileno just didn't measure up!
We felt we still had room to share a dessert & opted for Budino di cioccolato con crema di liquore all’ arancia (chocolate pudding, orange amaro sauce)...this was very good with a nice oozy centre & the orange sauce really worked well with the chocolate.
This was quite an enjoyable lunch, but certainly did not live up to the expectations we had haboured for years.
