Review : Bar Mattino - The Update

96 Abercrombie Street
Chippendale

Mon-Fri 6.30am-5pm
Saturday Closed
Sunday 7.30am-4pm

After a very late night (for us anyway) & perhaps a little too much drinking (ditto), we are very much looking forward to our Bar Mattino breakfast. We arrive later than usual & the place is packed (is word getting out about how brilliant this cafe really is?)... however, we don't mind waiting for a table, when breakfast is this good, (as our previous posts about Bar Mattino testify!) This morning we both decide to forgo our usual order of Welsh Rarebit.... we decide to mix it up a little....go a little crazy.

Review: Jazz City Diner

238 Crown St
Darlinghurst

**UPDATE - We did revisit Jazz City Diner again and can happily report that this visit was glitch free! The burgers were great (as they always have been), the fries were better than they have been and the Peanut Butter Milkshake - OMG!**

American 'diner' food has always held fascination for Buggles and Squeak, and for me personally, I blame it all on Happy Days.  I am still waiting for the time that a little tray can be popped onto the side of the car and waitresses can take and bring my order via rollerskates. Until that day comes, both Squeak and I must make do with the burgeoning number of American style restaurants that have been popping up over Sydney of late.  The Jazz City Diner being one of the most recent ones to open its doors late last year. Squeak and I decided to drop in for a bit of a sneaky midweek lunch.

Review : Four in Hand Restaurant

105 Sutherland Street
Paddington 2021

lunch Tuesday to Sunday 12pm - 2.30pm

dinner Tuesday to Sunday 6.30 pm - 10pm (Sunday -9pm)

The last time we sampled the wonderful offerings from Colin Fassnidge he was still cooking at La Grande Bouffe in Rozelle and the last time we dined at the wonderfully cosy Four in Hand restaurant, Brent Savage was in the kitchen working his magic prior to opening the Bentley.
So it really was about time we caught up with Colin Fassnidge & the Four in Hand.

Review : Pink Salt

53 Cross Street
Double Bay

Lunch: Tuesday – Sunday from 12pm

Dinner: Tuesday – Sunday from 6pm

Double Bay is not a suburb viewed as a dining mecca. The recent opening of  Dietmar Sawyere's Ad Lib Bistro is somewhat of a surprise really. Perhaps he chose the Double Bay location due to lack of competition or as a way of putting Double Bay back on the map, certainly the suburb could do with the help.

A recent dining offer of $69 for a three course meal for two people (plus a bottle of wine) at Pink Salt, Double Bay seemed an offer too good to refuse, and so it was that Buggles & Squeak headed to Double Bay for a spot of lunch.

When we arrived at Double Bay around midday, we were immediately struck by the lack of activity & the 'ghost town' feel of the place. The suburb has certainly lost the glitz & glamour of its 80's heyday. It feels dated.

Review: Goloso

60 Dalhousie St
Haberfield

Lunch
Fri - Sun: 12pm - 4pm
Dinner
Mon - Sun: 6pm - late

Squeak and I are always up for a bit of Italian and woodfired pizza and Haberfield is often the place to go for this style of food. Everyone has heard about La Disfida and Napoli in Bocca, but we decided to give Goloso, situated in the old Haberfield Post Office, a go. We were a little dubious initially as many of the reviews on the 'Eatability' website were luke warm, but we always prefer to judge a place on our own experience.
